For the 2022-2023 season, it is Varsity's goal to attend the National High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, FL for the 5th time in program history. The team will be competing for a bid to nationals in early December. Stay tuned for competition schedules, fundraisers, community involvement and more.

Brie Carlen-Head Varsity Cheerleading Coach
Coach Brie Carlen took over the Shoreham-Wading River Cheerleading program 4 years ago in Fall of 2018. She is a proud SWR Wildcat Cheerleading alumni where she graduated from the district in 2006 as a 4 year Varsity cheerleader. Brie has 15 years of coaching experience which includes both traditional UCA school and NCA All Star levels. She is also an experienced choreographer and stunt clinic coach. Her coaching certifications consist of AACCA Spirit Safety, USA Cheer, First Aid/CPR/AED, Heads Up Concussion Training, Child Abuse and Prevention, and Philosophies, Principles and Organizations of Athletics Course by New York State. Brie holds a wide range of championship titles under her belt with the most recent one being SWR's first Suffolk County Cheerleading Championship title that she was excited to bring to her alma mater program for the 2021-2022 season! Her main goal for taking over SWRVC was to build the program into one big family in which a variety of student athletes wanted to be apart of. With 27 athletes currently registered to tryout for Varsity this fall, this coach's goals are being achieved!
Lisa Carlen-Middle School Cheerleading Coach
Coach Lisa Carlen took over the very first Middle School Cheerleading Squad at Shoreham-Wading River in 2018. The first 2 years of our program having a middle school team was a fall-only game team. This past 2021-2022 season, our Middle School squad competed for the first time under coach Lisa Carlen bringing home 2nd and 3rd place titles throughout the winter! Lisa is a retired Middle School guidance counselor from Sachem Central School District, and has 6 years of coaching experience including running middle school teams and assisting varsity teams. Her certifications consist of AACCA Spirit Safety, First Aid/CPR/AED, Heads Up Concussion Training, and Child Abuse and Prevention. Her main goal for taking over SWRMSC was to prepare future SWR Cheerleading athletes in the community she has been apart of for almost 30 years!
Doug Carlen-Volunteer Cheerleading Coach
Coach Doug Carlen is a volunteer coach for both our Varsity and Middle School squads. He is an involved long-time resident of our community and currently listed on the Board of Trustees at Wading River Congregational Church. Doug has been assisting Brie and Lisa's cheerleading teams over the years, and is now working to help assist our tumbling coaches as well! His certifications consist of AACCA Spirit Safety, First Aid/CPR/AED, Heads Up Concussion Training, and Child Abuse and Prevention. Doug is a graduate from Binghamton University after growing up in Saugerties, NY. His goal for coaching at SWR is to bring our students and community together to support our district in all they do for us in return!
Jody Spinnato & Juliana Palmiotto-Tumbling Coaches
Jody and Juliana started tumbling both of our Varsity and Middle School teams in the 2021-2022 seasons. They both come from an extension background in coaching gymnastics. Jody has been the owner of Spins Gymnastics (where our teams tumble) for 38 years and one of the head coaches in the gym, as well as Juliana. Both Jody and Juliana have taken our teams under their wing and brought our tumbling scores to new heights this past season. They both play an extensive role in our coaching staff and we look forward to working with them for future seasons ahead! Their gym, Spins Gymnastics in Port Jeff, has become the home of our Suffolk County Championship program!
