The SWR varsity cheerleaders attended their first competition on December 3rd, 2022 at UCA Pocono Regionals in Allentown, PA. They competed for 2 bids to nationals in the Traditional Medium Varsity division and Game Day Medium Varsity NT Division. This is the first season that the SWR varsity team is taking on an additional routine known as Game Day!

Game Day competitions consist of a 3 minute routine which includes a band chant, sideline cheer, crowd leading cheer, and fight song. You may have even seen the team showcasing sections of their Game Day routine on the sidelines this past football season!

Traditional competitions are a 2 minute and 30 second routine consisting of elite stunts, tumbling, jumps, dance, pyramids, and a crowd leading cheer. They will continue to compete their traditional routine throughout Section XI to try to qualify for Suffolk County championships again in 2023.

The varsity cheerleaders took home their highest placement at a northeast regional competition on Saturday when they placed 2nd in Game Day and 3rd in Traditional-beating their 5th place record which they earned at Empire regionals last year. They also received a bid for each performance to the National High School Cheerleading Championships held at ESPN in Orlando, FL this February! The team continued into Sundays first Section XI competition at Longwood HS where they placed 1st in Large Varsity division 2!

Congratulations SWRVC on an extremely successful start to the 2022-2023 competitive winter cheerleading season! Next up: SWR Middle School will be competing this Saturday at 12:10pm at Hauppauge HS! #SWRPROUD
